veganism a healthy option
1. Veganism promotes natural living.
Veganism is a lifestyle choice based upon respect for animals and their rights. You may hear people say things about vegans like, “They’re weirdos who don't eat meat,” or “I'm not going to talk to them because they're vegetarians.” But these are just myths. Vegans are no different than any other group of people. We eat, we sleep, we love those around us. All humans need food, water, air, and shelter to survive. We all want to live. So what makes vegans different? Well, unlike non-vegans, vegans try to eliminate harm to others. Non-vegans consume products that were produced by harming animals. That's just how food works. But it doesn't have to be that way! As a vegan you decide to abstain from eating foods derived from animals. If you choose to buy meat from a grocery store, you would avoid consuming the flesh of animals. In fact, if you look at the labels on the back of packaged meats, you'll see labels like USDA 100% Beef, Chicken Livers, Egg Yolk Products, etc. These labels indicate that the products are free from cruelty and do not use any animal products in any way. Most processed foods also carry similar labels. If you read labels carefully, you might notice that some companies have begun labeling certain items as “No Animal Ingredients.” I'd encourage you to think twice before purchasing anything labeled as "No Animal Ingredients." When you purchase something like that, you're actually buying something that was produced using the body parts of animals. And when you consume that product, you're helping to cause further suffering to those same animals. Many vegan foods are naturally low in salt and sugar, while still being rich in nutrition. And unlike many plant-based foods, veggie burgers are often high in protein and fiber. A diet devoid of animal products helps protect our bodies against heart disease, cancer, and obesity. Eating a well-balanced, nutritious diet is important to anyone wanting to achieve good health. However, eating a complete vegan diet is critical to maintaining optimal health. Why? Because the human body does not produce the enzymes necessary to break down lactose (a sugar found in dairy) or gluten (found in wheat). By eliminating both of these foods from your diet, your levels of digestive enzymes remain lower. Therefore, you can suffer from gas, bloating, indigestion, and diarrhea. Additionally, if you're trying to lose weight, avoiding highly processed foods containing refined grains and added sugar is helpful. According to Harvard Health Publishing, studies show that people on a vegan diet are less likely to develop diabetes and heart conditions. On top of that, research shows that vegans tend to weigh less and maintain a healthier body composition. In addition to the above mentioned benefits, vegans also enjoy numerous nutritional advantages over non-vegetarians. While many people mistakenly believe that meat contains all the vitamins and minerals that we require, vegetables and fruits provide much greater amounts of iron, zinc, vitamin B12, vitamin C, folate, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, pantothenic acid, biotin, and dietary fiber. Vegetables and whole fruits also offer protection against cancer, heart disease, stroke, osteoporosis, depression, and Alzheimer's Disease. Not only does a vegan diet prevent illness, but it does wonders for mental health as well. Studies show that vegans have higher self-esteem and confidence levels, are more optimistic, and experience fewer symptoms of anxiety. Plus, vegans tend to be happier and more satisfied with their lives. If you feel that you want to try out a vegan diet, then give it a shot. You've got nothing to lose except the pain and discomfort associated with a poor diet. Think about how much better you'll feel after making this change. You'll feel lighter, leaner, stronger, and more energized. Take control of your health today!
